Congratulations to Bob Tweten for winning National Cash King Championship
Local DPT player Bob Tweten took down the FPN Cash King championship event in Las Vegas on Feb 10th. Bob was League Champ at El Roco Bar last spring to automatically qualify for FPN's National Championship Series. While there, Bob missed in the League Champ freeroll but qualified his way through the Last Chance Cash Qualifier and went on to win the Main Event for a significant first place of $25,000. Other local players also the made it into the money. Rob Grubbs finished in 10th place playing out of slammers in Fargo, Allen Ziemann finished 15th playing out of the Amvets in Bismarck, Leonard Melgaard finished 17th from the 4 mile bar in Williston , Brandon Schmidt finished 19th from the bowler in Fargo. Steve Kreps finished 29th playing out of Olearys in Moorhead. Congratulations to everyone! The poker league is hosted at several area bars, the format has evolved over the years making it easier than ever for players to qualify for the national event. Big Weekend for Area Poker
The 15th annual Dead Money Open started the week off with a Super Satellite which gave 9 luck players a free buy-in to the yearly event. The main event which moved to Super Bowl weekend ended with 105 entries. The tournament paid the top 12 players and ended in a six way chop with the players splitting close to $9000. The Dead Money Open started in 2004 and has given out more than a quarter of a million dollars in prize money and raised thousands of dollars for sponsor West Fargo Hockey Association.
The Wahpeton Vets Club hosted a tournament Saturday Feb 2 and had 53 entries. Dean Ellingson took home a first place prize of $1500. Congratulations to all the players that cashed in both tournaments this weekend.
Don't forget that Saturday Feb 9 is the first day of the Cactus Jacks open weekend. Saturday will have a $100 buy-in event and survivor tournament on demand. Sunday will have the $200 buy-in main event and survivor tournaments. This is another yearly event that always brings out a nice crowd.
Fish with Chips Results
The inaugural Fish with Chips tournament took place on Sunday January 27 with 75 buy-ins. The tournament ended in a 3 way chop by Twyla Bucholz, Keith Kemper, and Nathan Kiefert for $1900 each. Prairie Public Broadcasting which hosted the tournament was "very happy with the turnout on a stormy winter day." The survivor tournaments were also a hit with 70 entries into the 2 hour tournaments. The Fish with Chips tournament gave out more than $16,000 in prize money and raised over $2000 for Prairie Public Broadcasting.
